Stewardess uniform as a promotional tool for airlines

Back to the 70s Southwest Airlines had a crisis. One of the marketers came up with an idea: to create sexy stewardess uniform. Short shorts and high leather boots boosted sales much more than discounts and promotion.

In the 1930s, when stewardess profession has just started its way, the main requirement for getting this job was not the appearance of the girls, but their ability to cope with cooking and caring for the sick passenger.

In 1950s the airlines began a collaboration with designers. Airlines started considering their employees as a face of corporation, and therefore applied a lot of effort to create an attractive stylish image.

The glossy look of the air hostess brought them a reputation of “sex bombs”. One of the advertising slogans promised that the girls on the board will change clothes several times until they stay in tight shorts.

The most sexy fashion period of aviation began in 1970th, when stewardesses began to wear short tight dresses, mini-shorts and high boots.
